Question, Quote, Comment

Question:
Why do  some people assume a product is healthy just because it has one word that sounds healthy out of all the ingredients that it actually contains.
Quote:
“Cocoa puffs and Lucky charms are screaming their new found "whole-grain goodness" to the rafters.” Pg.40
Comment:
I used to be guilty of reading something about a product I liked and the moment I saw high protein or made with whole grain, etc. and I would show my mom and she would usually let me get it. But as my mom started to become more aware with good nutrition she would start to look at the ingredients and if she saw something she didn't like she would say to put it back. Now I have my own freedom to choose what I want to eat in the house. Even though it takes some time to look at the ingredients of a product, it is worth it to know what you are really eating.

List of food I ate today

Breakfast: Chocolate milk.
Lunch: Celery sticks, hummus dip, egg salad, a bag of chips, and capri sun.
Dinner: Vegetable noodle soup.

For the most part I can identify the ingredients in most of the foods that I ate except for capri sun and bag of chips. There are different types of sugar some using high fructose while other are natural cane sugar. For the most part I think I had healthy fats other than the bag of chips which has ingredients I have no idea what they mean or pronounce. The egg salad had a good amount of protein.

Endersession

If you were to select 3 Endersession possibilities that would make your resume stand out, what are these three? Explain. At the end of the essay, please research and include 3 contacts for Endersession opportunities that would help make your resume stand out.

The three enderession choices that I'm interested in and would make my resume stand out would be volunteering at either the old globe because I love theater. I would like to learn how to produce plays and see how actors and actresses prepare. Another choice I'm considering is volunteering at the art museum. I want to have experience with greeting people and going behind the scenes in how museums are created and what they do to prepare for their guest. Another option I'm considering is working at Camp Diggity dogs. Its convenient because its very close to my house, walking distance and I wouldn't mind working with pets because i'm an animal lover.

I believe these internships would help my resume stand out and look for a summer job. :)

Endersession homework

What skills or knowledge would you like to acquire before leaving high school (either in preparation for college or life in general)? Match your ideas on this question with ideas for Endersession. In a brief essay explain both of these. At the end of you essay, research and include 3 contacts for Endersession opportunities that would help you acquire the above stated skills.

The skills that I would like to acquire before leaving high school are to become diligent, patient, and curious.
The reason I chose these 3 qualities are because I have the opposite of those qualities and they are negative and only slow me down. As I get older I know I will need to improve my work ethic and gain skills.
I want to become diligent because I honestly have started to become a lazy person and will finish my tasks late or not bother doing them at all. It is a bad habit that will only get worse unless I start to become diligent and become ambitious about my work. If I have this quality I will get a lot more accomplished and find myself doing a lot of activities rather than deciding not to do anything because its so much easier.

The second quality I want to gain is patience. I'm an impatient person and that quality had led me to rush my work and get frustrated very fast. I hope that my endersession experience I will be challenged to be patient and  work at a steadily pace. After all patience is a virtue.

The final quality I hope to leave with is curiosity. I believe it is one of the best qualities someone could have. People should question their surroundings more and engage in the world. I want to know how and why things are made and their importance. I want to be a thinker.

3 possible Places:

1.The Old Globe
2.San Diego Museum of Art
3. Camp Diggity Dogs

I picked these three because I have an interest for each one of them. They are different from each other and will help me gain the skills I hope to acquire.

Endersession Homework 2

List Three Volunteer or Service work you might be interested in, be sure to include why.

1.The San Diego Humane Society
 Contact Info: (619) 299-7012
I love animals, It saddens me to see how many of them are abounded or abused. The humane society's goal is to help these pets find loving homes. I would like to take care of animals and know their stories. I would like to nurse once back to health and be part of a community that nurtures animals.

2. Ronald McDonald House
 Contact Info: (858)598-2430
I have volunteered here twice, and have enjoyed my experience. I love to put a smile on the kid's faces and entertain them. I love working with kids and wouldn't mind tutoring them either.

3.Attorney Office Criminal Division
Contact Info: (619) 533-5605
This would be a new experience for me, but I have a small interest for the way criminal division works. I would like to try a new experience and see if this is something I love or could see myself doing in the future.

Based on this green plant's wide football shaped leaves, I think that this weed is a Broadleaf plantain.

Endersession

Three Ideas

1. Ronald McDonald Children's Hospital
I have volunteered at the children's hospital twice and had a enjoyable time. I would like to be able to spend a long amount of time because I have only done it for two days. I plan on helping children and assisting workers.

2. San Diego Humane Society
I love animals and I appreciate how the Human Society try to save pets and give them homes. I would like to try to be involved by helping abused animals and trying to give animal more rights.

3. College Classes (psychology or Sociology)
I have always been interested in wanting to understand psychology and sociology. I'm not sure if I want to pursue a career with one of these topics but I feel like taking a college class would prepare me for next year.

Plant Research

The three plants that I would like to grow are cucumbers, cat nip, and Myosotis sylvatica (Forget me not). I chose these because cucumbers are my favorite vegetable and I like how it it is smooth and very juicy in the inside. It contains a lot of water like watermelons. I feel like cucumbers are good to use in salads or a snack to munch on.

The second one that I chose was cat nip. I didn't actually plan on growing cat nip because I was only thinking we could grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers but after browsing the web I want top grow my own cat nip. I think this will benefit me because I have a cat and I'll save money by spending money. This will be a unique collection for our class garden because I don't think anyone else will be growing it.

The last one is a flower known as forget me not. I love the blue-purple color it has and even though it is a very small flower it stands out. I originally planned on planting daisies but I wanted to see what other flowers I could plant.

Cucumber:
-Vegetable
-Warm Season (Mid March-July)
-Days to Germ.:4-12
-Grown from seed
Soil temp. for germ.: 65-70°F
-Days to maturity: 50-60
-Moderate amount of water, requires sun/shade.
-Grows 6-8 inches.
-If I plant it during March it should be ready just in time before school ends.
- It doesn't take much space.
- The plants need to be started in sterile or pasteurized potting soil
-Don't over water, keep moist
-Water only at the base so leaves don't get wet , not so much water.
Interesting fact: Since Cucumbers are made of 95% water, they are not high in nutrients like other vegetables, but they still taste pretty darn good.

Catnip:
-Herb
-Grown from a seed
- Anytime in the growing season
-Days to germ:10-20
-Soil temp for germ:soil temp. for germ.: 60-70°F
-Days to Maturity: 90
-Water Less,Drought Tolerant
-Full Sun/Partial Shade
- Grows 2-3 ft.
-Plant Spacing: 10-14"
- Should be expected after two months of growing
-Moderate amount of space
- Wait until any dew has evaporated before harvesting in order to prevent molding
- Cut entire stems of the base of the plant
Interesting Fact: Not only can catnip be used for attracting cats but it can me made into tea and enhance salads.

Forget Me Not:
-Flower
- Early Season,
- Seed grown
-Waterside plant, so moisture is all-important. Rich soils.
-Low growing (Under 1ft.)
-Bloom season late spring
- Full sun to partial sun
-pH 6.1 - 7.8
-Temperature: 68 - 72F
-Plant Spacing: 9 - 12 inches
- Not medicinal
Interesting Fact: A legend about the origin of the name forget-me-not is as follows. Once a medieval knight and his lady-love were walking beside a river. The knight held a bouquet in his hands. Because of the weight of the armor, he fell into the water. According to the legend, he threw the bouquet at her shouting forget-me-not.
